Death of Mexican composer Daniel Catan

Mexican composer Daniel Catan , author who recently released the opera "Il Postino" with Placido Domingo, died at age 62 suddenly in his home in Austin, Texas, according to the Los Angeles Times. Catan
died Sunday in his sleep. His representative confirmed that there was no evidence that suffer illness and dismissed any other hypothesis.
The author wrote the lyrics in English version of the novel "Burning Patience" by Chilean Antonio Skarmeta, about the relationship between the poet Pablo Neruda and a postman on an Italian island who help to win his beloved.
The play was made into a film like "Il Postino" in 1994 with an Oscar winner.

The composition served to open the opera season in Los Angeles on September 23 and featured the tenor Placido Domingo who provided the voice of Neruda. Catan
lived with his wife in Los Angeles, although it had temporarily moved to Austin to teach at the University of Texas for one semester.

born in Mexico City, studied at Princeton and was the first Mexican to have an opera produced in the U.S., "Rappaccini's Daughter" (1994). His work had a huge impact with "Florencia en el Amazonas" (1996), opera he wrote based on the novel "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel García Márquez. Other author's popular works were "Salsipuedes" and "Encounter in the sunset."
